What to Do About a Wrist Pain Diagnosis

If you are experiencing any type of pain or tingling sensation on your arm or wrist area, you need to take yourself to a doctor to get a proper wrist pain diagnosis. A doctor will either perform the examination himself or refer you to a specialist in order to determine the root cause of the pain.


If you get a wrist pain diagnosis, you should listen to your doctor. Follow any instructions to minimize the pain you may be feeling. This includes immobilizing the wrist, hand or arm and taking ample rest to ensure that your wrist is given ample time to recover from any stress or injury.



If your doctor gives you an anti-inflammatory medicine or pain medication, assess if you truly need the medication or if you can manage without it. Most doctors will recommend that you take pain medication on an as needed basis. If your pain is severe and the over the counter medication given isn't sufficient, then you should ask for prescription medication. Again, you can also talk to your doctor about other pain management options such as using a hot or warm compress or massage therapy and other non invasive and non medical options.



A wrist pain diagnosis may be obtained from a second opinion. If you feel there is no improvement in your situation or the doctor recommends surgery, you may want to go to another doctor to get another opinion. One doctor's wrist pain diagnosis may be different from the diagnosis of another expert. Since there are various causes of wrist pain, this is normal.



You have several options when you start experiencing wrist pain. First, use your common sense and listen to your body's cues. If you are getting overworked, then take frequent breaks. Also, ensure that your work station is ergonomically correct. Ensure that your chair is elevated properly and that your keyboard is positioned in such a way that you are not overextending your arm or your wrist.



Make sure that you rest your arms, hands and wrist after heavy typing or after any activity before you wet your arm or wash your hands. This gives your arm time to rest. Avoid taking any over the counter medication to relieve any pain as much as possible.



Take care of your self and avoiding over working your self. If you feel pain or discomfort, stop what you are doing and seek medical help as needed to get there.
